Chocolate
as a Health Food?
Besides satisfying cravings and tasting delicious,
chocolate may have healthful benefits.
Cocoa is one of natures leading sources of Flavonoids.
Dark chocolate contains more flavonoids than most other
food—including green tea, black tea, red wine,
and blueberries.
Flavonoids serve as a potent antioxidant in the ongoing
war that is waged inside our bodies; antioxidants represent
our front line of defense against major health conditions
such as heart disease, cancer and macular degeneration.
Chocolate also has been associated with mood elevation.
To test the theory that chocolate enhances mood, a study
was conducted at the University of Pennsylvania. The
results suggest that it is not some secret chemical
ingredient in chocolate that provides the euphoria,
but the sensory experience...the taste, the smoothness
and the aroma. Perhaps the mood-enhancing chemicals
are just the "icing on the cake."
But while there may be some healthful positives to chocolate,
it also is a confection containing both sugar and cocoa
butter. Cocoa butter consists of 34% monounsaturated,
3% polyunsaturated, and 60% saturated fats. Of the saturated
fats, 60% is a stearic fatty acid a saturate found NOT
to have any affect on cholesterol levels.
Adora disks, however, only weigh .25 ounces and contributes
only 30 calories to your daily dietary in-take, a fairly
insignificant source of nutrition to any diet. So, think
of Adora as a good way to assure that you will get you
daily requirements of Calcium and Vitamin D. Adora takes
this important supplementation from a daily chore to
a daily pleasure!
